Extreme space saver for travel: How to bundle and roll 3 pairs of socks into 1

How to pack socks to save space? Bundling 3 pairs of socks and rolling them together is, in my opinion, an excellent solution to save space while packing.

Pack efficiently is all about getting the most out of your bag and either put more things inside it, or making it more organized.

I like to roll all my clothes and pack them inside my bag.

When I roll the clothes, each garment has it's own volume, which ends up taking space inside the bag.

However, in the case of socks, I believe there is an another method that is more extreme, but can save a ton of space if done right.

This method is putting 3 pairs of socks together and rolling them, creating one roll.

With practice, I believe this is an excellent technique to reduce the size of our bag. Please take a look to my post on How to travel only with a small 10 liter backpack.

What are the benefits of bundling and rolling socks?

Bundling pieces together in one roll really maximizes space, because each roll takes less volume, when comparing to the more traditional folding method that everyone uses.

Also, it allows for a good organization of clothes since you know what each roll contains.

How to bundle and roll socks?

The method is very simple.

I basically stack all socks in one pile, like so:

stocks stacked on top of each other

and once they are stacked, the second step is very simply rolling them together into one roll.

Then, we just need to fold the open end of the sock towards the opposite side to maintain its form.

I prepared a video where I explain in detail my bundling and rolling technique for socks:

What to pay attention to while bundling and rolling socks?

We just need to be careful not put too many socks together, since the roll will become too thick which will end up take more space than socks rolled individually.

There's a balance to use this method, and to me this balance ends at rolls of 3 socks.

But try it out!

Since this my perception, not an actual scientific study, you may have a different perception.

Conclusion

Bundling clothes together reduces the volume of the clothes inside the bag, allowing us to optimize the space inside.

It allows for a good organization of clothes since you know what each roll contains.
