How to pack pyjamas for travel

How can you pack an entire pyjama to save space inside your bag? Bundling all pieces of a pyjama and then rolling them together, in my opinion, the best way to pack it inside the bag.

Pack efficiently is all about getting the most out of your bag and put more things inside it.

Some people say we should bundle it, some say you should fold it, and others say you should roll it.

Having tried all three methods, my preferred method is to roll my clothes.

Rolling clothes, in my opinion, not only it maximizes the space, but also makes it easy to take things out of the bag while keeping all other clothes neat and organized.

What pyjamas to pack?

Sleeping comfortably is very important any day of the year, and also important while traveling. Recovering from a long day walk with a good night of sleep is invaluable.

The choice of the best travel pyjama is an article of its own, but it really depends on your type of destination and preferences. For summer travel I always pack a regular men's pyjama with shorts and a t-shirt. For winter travel, I opt for pants and long sleeved shirts.

As far as packing a pyjama is concerned, I don't think the type of pyjamas makes a lot of difference. You can however, opt for other alternatives to save space like taking only shorts, sleeping in underwear, or taking no pyjamas at all. Like I said, it truly comes down to preference.

Women pyjamas is yet another topic. Women have even more options since there are several different types of pyjamas: short shorts, long shorts, night gown, underwear only, or nothing at all.

This packing method will be exemplified with standard shorts and t-shirts, but it work exactly the same with pants-type-of-pyjamas, or even t-shirt and underwear.

To pack this very important comfortable outfit, I always opt for putting both pieces of the pyjamas together and then roll them, so that I carry only one roll and minimize the space it takes inside my bag.

Also, rolling my pyjamas make my bag stay organized, since at the end of the day I only need to take out one roll without touching the rest of the contents in my bag.

I take the 5 following steps to roll my pyjamas:

1. Lay the pyjamas t-shirt on a flat surface

2. fold a 10 centimeter horizontal line at the bottom of the t-shirt

3. fold the shorts in half vertically and lay them on top of the t-shirt (inside the t-shirt fold/"pocket")

4. divide the t-shirt (with the shorts inside) into 3 vertical lines and fold the left side towards the middle, and do the same for the right side

4. Roll the "rectangle" from the top towards the folded bottom

5. Tuck the rolled portion inside the folded top until it holds itself and you get the complete roll.

Was it confusing?

I prepared a video to make the entire process easier to understand.

Conclusion

One of my proudest moment as a traveler, was when I was at the airport security in London, Heathrow, and I got a compliment from the security person checking my bag.

"Your bag is extremely well packed sir!"

Guess, what method I was using?

That's right!

In this trip I had a winter pyjamas with shirt and pants rolled up inside my bag.

It may take a little bit of extra time, when you first try it, but once you get the hang of it, it's really easy and fast. Totally worth doing!
