How to roll sweatshirts or pull-overs to save space in a travel bag
How can you pack a sweatshirt or a pull-over to save space inside your bag? Rolling sweatshirts or pull-overs is, in my opinion, the best way to pack it inside the bag.
Pack efficiently is all about getting the most out of your bag and put more things inside it.
Some people say we should bundle it, some say you should fold it, and others say you should roll it.
Having tried all three methods, my preferred method is to roll my clothes.
Rolling clothes, in my opinion, not only it maximizes the space, but also makes it easy to take things out of the bag while keeping all other clothes neat and organized.
What sweatshirt or pull-over to pack?
In my opinion, there is not much difference between picking one specific type of sweatshirts or pull-overs to travel with. Since the objective is to keep us warm, most of the fabrics will have a significant volume after being folded.
So, when packing a sweatshirt or a pull-over I try to select options that go well with most of my clothes and make me feel comfortable or well dress.
Most of the times I end up picking dark blue v-neck pull overs or simple sweatshirts.
I like v-neck pull overs because they pair well with a t-shirt or with with a button shirt. Packing a crew neck pull-over is also an excellent option. I like these options simply because they are slightly more formal and since I usually take mostly t-shirts or polos, these make me feel I have a more complete outfit.
Sweatshirts are more sporty, but they are excellent options as well.
How to roll a sweatshirt or a pull-over
To take this versatile clothing item with me, I always choose to roll it so that the space it takes inside the bag is minimized and also keep it organized.
I take the 5 following steps to roll my sweatshirts or pull-overs:
1. Lay the sweater or the pull-over on a flat surface
2. Fold a 10 centimeter horizontal line at the bottom of sweatshirt
3. divide the sweatshirt or pull-over into 3 vertical lines and fold the left side towards the middle, and do the same for the right side
4. Roll the "rectangle" from the top towards the folded bottom
5. Tuck the rolled portion inside the folded top until it holds itself and you get the complete roll.
Was it confusing?
I prepared a video to make the entire process easier to understand.
Conclusion
One of my proudest moment as a traveler, was when I was at the airport security in London, Heathrow, and I got a compliment from the security person checking my bag.
"Your bag is extremely well packed sir!"
Guess, what method I was using?
That's right!
In this trip I actually had a couple pull-overs and a couple fleeces rolled up inside my bag.
It may take a little bit of extra time, when you first try it, but once you get the hang of it, it's really easy and fast. Totally worth doing!
